Junior Achievement ‘Financial Fridays’ for youth

to offer tips from London financial community

LONDON  (On) – Junior Achievement (JA) of London and District is participating in the national November Financial Literacy Month through its “Financial Fridays” advice for young people.

Financial Fridays, a JA social media campaign,  will kick off tomorrow, November 2 and will continue every Friday in November, with messages provided by JA financial partners in London.

Started by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada of the Canadian government, this year’s theme is ‘invest in your financial well-being’ and thousands of organizations and individuals across the country are participating in Financial Literacy Month to help educate Canadians.

“With this year’s focus on helping Canadians learn to manage their personal finances successfully, Junior  Achievement saw a great opportunity to tap into the knowledge of our financial partners to share with young people,” said Bev Robinson, JA CEO and president. “Financial literacy is an essential life skill and youth of any age can benefit from learning money management skills.”  A  2008 Investor Education Fund survey found that only 28 per cent of students felt they were knowledgeable about money and that they made good spending decisions.

Financial Fridays will run November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, with specialists from CIBC, Libro Credit Union, RBC and TD providing advice and tips. Financial Friday messages may be see on Facebook @JA London and District; Twitter @JA_London; Instagram @jalondonontario;  and,  LinkedIn @JA London and District.

JA is a charitable organization that is dedicated to teaching young people about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness skills. Last year, JA successfully delivered 351 programs to almost 9,000 students in the region. In 2018-2019 – the centennial celebration of JA worldwide – JA London and District plans to reach 10,000 students.
