JA Canada (JACAN), is the national office for JA in Canada. A member of JA Worldwide, JACAN has been providing financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship programs in partnership with the Canadian education system since 1955. Designed to inspire, prepare and help youth succeed, JA programs are delivered across Canada via a network of 14 offices across Canada to reach over 200,000 youth annually. Supporting its mission, JA Canada created and annually hosts the Canadian Business Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala Dinner, to recognize outstanding individuals for their contributions to the Canadian economy and who serve as role models for youth.
In pursuit of greater reach, relevance and impact, JA Canada is committed to digital transformation to leverage new technological resources and efficiencies while increasing potential reach via digital program accessibility. In addition to resources supporting a virtual work environment for staff, several digital tools are in development to meet evolving operational and strategic needs.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Programs and Charter Services, the Manager, Marketing and Communications is responsible for coordinating JA Canada’s ongoing marketing, communication, and social media activities. This is a permanent, full-time position. The role will support the Programs and Charter Services and Resource Development teams to develop content, maintain marketing assets on digital platforms and ensure the overall brand, marketing, communications, and PR needs are supported. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and natural collaborator with diverse marketing and technology capabilities.
A summary of the responsibilities of the Manager, Marketing and Communications includes the following:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Brand and Network Support:
  • Establish and maintain national brand standards and key messages
  • Develop templates in accordance with brand standards to serve JA Canada and Charters
  • Design key assets and communications to promote brand, raise awareness and profile
  • Curate and maintain library of marketing assets (eg: photos, videos, impact stories)
  • Develop strategy for improved co-branding of program offering and fundraising initiatives with JA offices across Canada
  • Create additional program communication tools, to increase JA delivery succes\
  • Curate content, edit, and design the monthly newsletter (internal stakeholders)
  • Lead Marketing Community of Practice with program delivery representatives from across JA in Canada
  • JA Canada website management and updates including content curation, development and analytics
  • Curate content, edit, and design annual report
  • Communications/ editorial calendar (external/internal)
  • Production, maintenance, content development and execution of an annual communications calendar (social, newsletter, etc)
  • Collaborate with charters for content, submissions, stories, activities to highlight aligned to calendar
Social Media:
  • Maintain and moderate social media channels including Linkedin, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
  • Produce content and posts, aligned to communications calendar and/or as required to execute on donor/partner marketing initiatives
  • Develop and execute strategy to expand social media audience/ acquire new followers and amplify JA brand presence
PR and Media Relations:
  • Draft and issue press releases, as required/ directed
  • Maintain media lists and contacts
  • Direct and respond to media inquiries and requests
  • Identify and evaluate, negotiate, and manage paid media (digital, print, news, etc), as directed
Program and Technology Support:
  • Administrative support for JA Campus including content updates and analytics
  • Development, updating, design of sell sheets and program material
  • Development of a marketing/outreach strategy both for JA Canada nationally and to enable Charters to recruit self-directed teacher and student digital participation
  • Develop promotional and co-branded collateral for program partnerships
  • Collaborate with the Programs team on summary impact reports as required
  • Support VP and Sr Director Program Development to develop impact measurement tools (surveys, website/Campus analytics and/or polling capabilities)
  • Participate in CRM (Salesforce) development, in particular future scoping of automated marketing capabilities
  • Coordinate the development of key marketing and communication materials for program event
Resource Development Team Support:
Canadian Business Hall of Fame Gala Event
  • Oversee brand look and feel, key messages
  • Help advise CBHF sponsorship lead on relevant marketing/brand rights and benefits
  • Manage CBHF/ Canadian Business Archives website
  • Secure and manage both in-kind and paid media and PR efforts
  • In collaboration with Events Manager, support the development of communications, invites, event scripting
Donor Outreach, Stewardship, Sales Tools and Reporting:
  • Support the development of templated and custom presentations, sales tools, pitch decks
  • Collect and maintain library of donor brand marks and standards; oversee production of co-branded assets and ensure donor/partner recognition across web, assets, annual report, etc
  • Prepare stewardship and recognition templates/key assets i.e. standard thank you letters
  • Work with Development Manager to prepare annual report template
  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing strategies, including coordination of promotional mailings.
Donor/ Partner Marketing:
  • Support and advise the development of marketing and PR sponsorship/ donor rights and benefits
  • Develop and execute custom donor and partner marketing plans, tactics, analytics, reporting
  • Coordinate and execute paid program/partner digital marketing
  • In coordination with Development Manager, help develop assets for partners/donors to showcase commitment to JA
  • 3-5 years experience in marketing and communications role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Social/digital marketing experience
  • Content creation experience including video, graphic design, reports and posts
  • Advanced skill in Adobe Creative Cloud apps and other design software
  • Salesforce CRM and Learning Management System (Moodle) experience is an asset
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Proficiency in French is an asset (verbal and written)
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment
