"It’s time to applaud this country’s volunteers.” This is Volunteer Canada’s theme for 2020 National Volunteer Week, and we welcome the opportunity to shine a spotlight on our volunteers. We couldn’t deliver our programs and have the impact we do on youth, communities and the country without their generous support!
Last year, over 11,000 volunteers – from a wide variety of organizations and diverse backgrounds – dedicated more than 152,000 hours to share their experiences and knowledge with over 268,000 students across Canada.
In addition to teaching students about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship, our volunteers taught skills that are essential to helping youth succeed in school, work and in life. By sharing their knowledge and delivering a JA Program, volunteers contributed to the personal growth and success of our students.
This year, in response to the pandemic which has resulted in the closing of schools across the country, we’re leveraging a new learning management system to create digital versions of our most popular programs. These programs provide a new way for volunteers to get involved, as the new digital programs can be facilitated virtually by volunteers, using videoconferencing platforms such as Skype, Zoom or MS teams. Our volunteers continue to be a vital partner in the delivery of JA programs, bringing valuable insights and experiences to our students.
Thank you to each and every one of our volunteers - for your inspiration, your knowledge and your commitment to supporting our next generation of leaders – we applaud you!
